Islands Festival

NES is part of Four-Sixteen, a collaboration of academics and architects who were invited to submit a proposal for the prestigious 2022 UK Festival to celebrate technology and communities throughout the UK.

The proposal includes a crystalline tectonic substructure with several demountable stages formed from a three-dimensional matrix of geodesic modules, inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion World Map.

Modules are aligned in multiple configurations to allow for variety of topologies and variety of site conditions, providing a contingency for uncertainty.

The overall assembly acts as a receiving and protective domestic PORT. The edge condition allows for additional temporary accommodation and technical plug-in modules to come and go, to support developing needs of the festival programme.
